A Greener Future not at the expense of Motorists
January 14, 2021
We would all love to see more green spaces in our cities. However, these spaces should not come at the expense of motorists. We are constantly seeing our roads being taken over by bike lanes, trams and the like. Governments need to look further, even at more expensive options such as removing buildings, to make way for greener spaces rather than roads taking the full brunt of the change.

Fossil Fuels and Climate Change
December 31, 2020
Motorists don't like to be blamed for damage to our environment from climate change. However, motorists are one of the main contributors of global emissions due to the continuous burning of fossil fuels to power vehicles. But this does not mean motoring is the problem, it means that we need to move from fossil fuel burning vehicles to cleaner energies as quickly as possible to reduce emissions from vehicles. Electric powered vehicles are the obvious solution. Yet there is little change in emissions if we just move from burning fossil fuels in v...

The State of Sydney Roads
December 29, 2020
We keep getting new toll roads, new light rail and plenty of new bike lanes, but very little has been done to fix our free roads over the years. With most not having had any upgrade, or even resurfacing for over 30 years! Over that time the amount of traffic that uses our roads has multiplied several times and our roads are now in disarray. We pay our registration fees, taxes and levies and we believe it should not just be to finance the building of more toll roads but to also maintain and improve our free roads.

Fines and Fees becoming a Deterrent to Motoring
December 27, 2020
At what point does the relentless imposition of new fines and punitive fees move from being a deterrent for motorists committing offences to being a deterrent to motoring altogether? You could well be excused for thinking our local and state governments are actively trying to deter us from being on the roads in general. And we bet that if it wasn't for the billions of dollars governments gouge from motorists each year, there would be far fewer motorists on our roads, including you! Governments use a lot of motorists money funding pu...

The Loss of City Streets to Bike Lanes
December 16, 2020
With speed limits now being reduced across all of Sydney CBD to only 40kmh we see no valid reason to keep converting CBD roads to exclusive bike lanes. Shared lanes with clear signage to notify motorists is all that is required rather than restricting motorists from the road completely. We strongly support cycleways being built but support the construction of cycleways on roads that genuinely require improved safety for cyclists rather than using them as an excuse to exclude motor vehicles.

Scrapping Vehicle Import Taxes
April 10, 2020
The reason given for vehicle import taxes being introduced in Australia was to protect our local car manufacturing industry from overseas imports. However, there is no longer a car manufacturing industry in Australia left to protect, which means there is now no longer a valid reason for maintaining vehicle import taxes and they should be reviewed.

Reducing Australia's road toll
March 23, 2020
The Motorists Party has a commitment is to helping reduce Australia's road toll. However, we believe the burden should not be put on motorists alone. Our governments are constantly reducing speed limits, increasing fines, installing speed cameras in areas not necessarily where a safety problem exists, and putting more and more restrictions on drivers. But there has been very little done to our free roads and intersections over the years to make them safer for both drivers and pedestrians. Road safety is a shared responsibility and redu... Motoring Through a Pandemic
March 23, 2020
Commuting during a pandemic is far safer in a private vehicle than on public trans[ort. Maintaining social distancing or avoiding touching surfaces that may be contaminated is not easy to do catching a bus or train. It's great to see motorists maintaining social distancing while driving 😀

Towards a Greener Motorist
January 07, 2020
While motorists worldwide may well be blamed for much of the emissions contributing to climate change, we've found the vast majority of city motorists would prefer to drive cleaner, non polluting vehicles and not contribute to climate change at all. Governments need to take action to allow and even promote for this to happen. Without policy, guidance and incentives driving the move to renewables motorists are left with little choice other than to continue to purchase fossil fuel burning vehicles.
Currently, electric vehicles are ex... Continue reading
Australia spends over b a year buying oil from overseas
December 07, 2019
Currently, Australia spends over b a year buying oil from overseas. Money that's lining the pockets of oil producing countries and not ours. That's a heck of a lot of money that could be staying in Australia if we had alternatives such as electric powered vehicles and renewable energies. The Australian Motorists Party is committed to helping develop viable alternatives, to not only fossil fuels, but the need for Australia to import energy from overseas.
And, while we recognise that there is likely to always be a genuine need for... Continue reading
Sydney's Roads Crippled During Peak Hours
January 08, 2019
Sydney's free roads are crippled. With most roads in peak hours a car park! Other than new toll roads, there has been very little done to fix our free roads, and it's getting worse! Help us take action and do something about it. Join our party, donate, help out or just support us.

Motorists - A Target of Government Revenue
January 08, 2019
Governments constantly have their hands in motorist's pockets. Whether its import duties, tariffs and customs to local councils with exorbitantly priced parking, punishing fines and relentless parking rangers, to state and federal governments who use tax money motorists have already paid to them to build new toll roads that we then have to pay again to use. It just doesn't seem fair.
Motorists pay a lot of money each year through car registrations, fuel taxes and fees but our existing free roads become continually more congested wi... Continue reading
Affordable Parking Where its Needed
December 17, 2018
Governments and councils actively discourage cars parking in the CBD and inner suburbs. And minimise the number of cars coming into them by increasing costs to Motorists. We don't agree with their policies. We believe motorist's should have good affordable roads and parking and not be pushed to using public transport or expensive toll roads just to get to and from work.
Instead of Governments making life easier for motorists, they put obstacles are put in place to make it more difficult, and especially financial ones. Punitiv... Continue reading
